Peter Tanella is a partner in Mandelbaum Salsburg’s Corporate Practice Group.  Peter has a broad-based transactional practice focused on the representation of closely-held businesses and health care professionals of varying disciplines.

Peter’s corporate law experience includes counseling closely-held businesses on such topics as strategic planning, mergers and acquisitions, corporate finance, complex buy-sell arrangements, executive benefit planning, general commercial relationships, employment law, as well as succession planning.  In addition to the representation of closely-held businesses, Peter regularly serves as a business and legal counselor to high net-worth individuals who are contemplating new business ventures. Peter also works with several institutional lenders in connection with arranging various commercial loan transactions, ranging from asset based loans to real estate collateralized loans.

In the health care field, Peter has developed his practice in that area by focusing on representing veterinarians and dentists on formation issues, strategic planning, sales, mergers, acquisitions and general corporate matters.  He counsels his clients on such issues concerning partnerships, office sharing agreements, management service organizations, leasing, real estate sales and acquisitions, financing, employment law, estate planning and other business transactions.

Dedicated to community service, Peter currently serves as a councilman for the Township of Cedar Grove  where he just completed his second term as Mayor.  He also served as Mayor during the Township’s centennial year anniversary in 2008.  In addition, Peter has served on numerous committees and boards of civic, charitable and educational institutions.  He serves as the Township of Cedar Grove Council liaison to the Municipal Alliance, Board of Education and Cedar Grove Chamber of Commerce and is a former member of the Township of Cedar Grove Zoning Board of Adjustment, Environmental Commission and Youth Advisory Counsel and past officer and general counsel of Cedar Grove UNICO.  Peter also enjoys coaching little league soccer.

Peter is a member of the New Jersey State Bar Association and Essex County Bar Association and former Trustee of the Young Lawyers Section of the Essex County Bar Association and recipient of the Essex County Bar Association Young Lawyers Section Achievement Award.  Peter has recently been appointed Chair of the Essex County Bar Association’s Corporate Law Committee. Peter has also been recognized as the lawyer of the month by the Essex County Volunteer Lawyers for Justice.

Peter received his J.D., from Quinnipiac University School of Law and a bachelor’s degree from Montclair State University.  While in law school, Peter served as a legal intern for the Ocean County Public Defender’s Office.  After graduating from law school, Peter served as a law clerk to the Honorable James G. Troiano, Superior Court of New Jersey, Chancery Division.  Following his clerkship, Peter was a Deputy Attorney General with the New Jersey Attorney General Office, Division of Law where he served as general counsel to the Department of Treasury, Office of Information Technology, Lottery Commission and the Board of Public Utilities.  He is admitted to practice before the State Court of New Jersey and the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey.
